Can anyone recommend software that will act as a network attached storage device?
I want to put NAS on my home network but already have two good desktop machines that could be used. Is there software out there that will allow me to use a desktop as a dedicated NAS box rather than have to buy a NAS box and spend yet more money?!
If the machine already has windows on it simply SHARE the drive on the network and give full control.
Remember though that a PC will use a LOT more electricity to run than a NAS would, so factor in that cost ofer 2 years and the NAS might be a cheaper option



Yes. FreeNAS. his is a Linux distro designed for just that purpose.
