How to remove or replace the SATA RAID drives, inside a Western Digital MyBook Studio 2. The drive used as the guinea pig here, is the 2 Terabyte model.
you have to make … you have to make sure the drives you use to replace them are WD Green drives, others wont work.

Thanks for the … Thanks for the Video; I have both the My Book Studio version and the My Book Premium edition 2.
Basically, what I am trying to do is to replace the 2 drives with 2 new hard drives. Once i put the new hard drives in they don’t seem to be detected by Mac or Win. Just wanted to find out if you had ever replaced a HDD in the My Book and what process did you have to go thought for them to work successfully?

i actually bought 1 … i actually bought 1 of those WDGP drives some months ago (250 euro, 388 dollar)
now they’r 109-119 euro x2 = 240 + expensive casing = 310,- and they still offer the thing for 350 euro ;p
i was considering the studio version cause of the eSata connection, the usb mirror cheaper version is getting around 16mb/s i heard.
i was hoping to get around 50mb/s using eSata.
luckily i still have some time to decide, just too bad my local reseller doesnt have everything ;_;
thnx anyway for the reply

I only used it at … I only used it at maximum (2Tb) capacity, so I’m unsure about the RAID. It doesn’t come with eSATA cable, no, and no I haven’t done benchmarks, sorry.
It’s not that expensive considering what you get. However, I’d be inclined to buy a pair of Samsung Spinpoint drives, as the drives inside this product are the WD “greenpower” and RPMs range 5,400-7,200 and it is certainly NOT a fast performance drive (the actual SATA drives inside) in it’s class. Thanks!.

Can i ask a few … Can i ask a few questions about this particular product?
it’s a pretty expensive product (360 euro/ 558 dollar) so, i want to make sure it’s all good.
does the raid1 function work properly? i have seen lacie’s failing on that.
have u done any benchmarks regarding transferspeed using the usb/esata/firewire?
and does it include a eSata cable?
Anyway, thnx if u can help me, even if it’s just a bit
