RAID or Not RAID for Single SATA HDD ?

have Asuse A8N-sli motherboard , its suport nForce NVDIA raid also silicon image raid and SATA HDD . also i have a 120gb WD SATA hdd.
do i get beter performance if i use raid or don’t need raid for single HDD .
Thank you for help in advance .

RAID with 1 drive would be pointless.

The whole point of RAID is to gang up multiple drives to act like a single drive, so you get a speed up due to the parallel seek action and also redundant storage if you opt for that.

Could you RAID a SATA hard drive with 16mb buffer with a SATA 32mb?

Will it increase or decrease performance?

When you RAID drives, they should have the exact same specifications. Especially, if you’re doing mirroring. The best way to do it is to buy multiple models of the exact same drive. Trust me.

i have a lenovo x60 tablet. do i have a sata raid?

i’m trying to download an xp sp3 with sata raid then downgrade my vista laptop to the xp.

It is unlikely that a laptop would have RAID. The hard drive might be on a SATA connection, though.

How to make a sata raid floppy disk to install windows xp on Gigabyte GA-945GZM-S2 Motherboard with sata hdd?

I am trying to install Windows XP on Gigabyte GA-945GZM-S2 Motherboard on sata hdd but winxp asks for sata floppy so that it can install itself on the sata hdd provided

The driver will be on the disk that came with your motherboard.
you may have to browse the cd, but it should be labeled as raid drivers..
I haven’t installed XP in ages, it might not allow you to look on a cd?
If it doesn’t you can use any floppy disk and just get the raid drivers from gigabyte and put them on the floppy disk.
If you don’t have a floppy drive you can try putting them on a flash drive.
I seem to recall having this issue a long time ago and having to buy a floppy drive….

SATA RAID Drivers on floppy for new computer?

I am building a new computer. I got all the parts and am ready to get started but have come to a road block. My motherboard (DFI Lanparty DX x38 series) came with a floppy disc labeled SATA RAID Driver ICH9R/JMB36X Rev. 1.0

I have a SATA 2 hard drive that I will be using as primary but did not buy a floppy drive. I figured everything would be installed with the DVD drive.

The motherboard also came with a CD with the following on it.
Chipset Drivers
Audio Drivers
Network Drivers
Tools

So my questions are.
Do I need the stuff on this floppy disc to get Windows Vista installed and working on my SATA 2 hard drive?

Do I need to take a floppy drive out of another computer to get this working or can I just burn the contents of the floppy onto a CD?

You will only need the floppy if you are going to install Windows on your system with the hard drives configured in a RAID configuration. If you only have one hard drive then you aren’t. If you don’t know what RAID is then you aren’t. In that case install away you don’t need it.

Does sata raid mirroring back up partitions as well as data?

Like if I have 3 partitions on one drive along with the data, will it be mirrored the same on the second drive?
I have a External Raid Box for the mirroring..

If it’s pure hardware RAID through the BIOS it mirrors the drive (or one partition - it depends on how you set it up). If it’s RAID in software through the operating system it’s usually only that partition.

Problem installing sata hard drive on alienware desktop, when i plug it into the raid spots they work when i p?

but when i plug them into sata 1 and sata 2 they dont work. So the issue i get is I get 2 hard drives working but not the other two. What, bios dosent see them at all :( please help
I have 4 hard drives total and they are sata.

One of the hard drives should be set as master and the others as slave. The master drive is the one that will have the OS installed on it so if it is set as master the bios will detect it,also one of your cd drives must be slave. Also check the cords and see if they are all powered in power supply

Does the Intel DX38BT main board support RAID via internal SATA?

It indicates to use a Marvel controller on the eSATA. What about internal?

I need an inexpensive SATA RAID card.?

needs to support SATA II speed, I need it for RAID 0 configuration. I am looking for a performance increase. My motherboard is an ASUS P5Q SE PLUS, which even though on the ASUS website it says it supports raid, for some reason mine doesnt. It’s like it was disabled on my motherboard or something.
The setting to enable RAID in the bios was not there. Also, pressing ctrl+l did not do anything.
The site does in fact say it supports it in the online manual, and in all the driver downloads.

Did you check the BIOS to enable the RAID?

You must enable the RAID in BIOS.

sata raid drivers for Windows XP install?

Im trying to install xp on a laptop and have come across the error "windows did not find and hard disks on your computer"

this is a common error which i am solving by slipstreaming the drivers using nLite.

the problem is that i dont know what sata raid drivers i need. i have a gateway mt6707 laptop

You could try an automatic driver update utility. It will scan your system to identify the devices and then locate and download the proper drivers for each device. I use the one from here: http://www.pcdriverupdate.com Just download the free scan and see if it finds what you need.

I hope it helps you. Good luck fixing it.
