Why can’t you install Adobe Photoshop CS4 on flash-based storage devices?

Does that mean you can’t install Adobe Photoshop CS4 on a solid state drive or do they only mean external flash-based storage devices?

They only mean external storage devices.

The reason is because typically, when installed, some applications need to be able to write to the Windows registry or store its configuration files (such as an INI file) in the user’s profile. This cannot be done in external storage devices such as USB flash drive. Photoshop is one of those applications that write to the registry and store a lot of configuration files on your profile.

This is also what separate the portable applications from them. Portable apps are software programs that are able to run independently without the need to install files to the system it is running in.

I’ve asked already, but nothing so far. I’m looking for online backup solutions?

I am trying to find a simple way to send, and receive data from a storage service online.

I’ve seen when someone has a Windows PC, and a Mac, and he has a drive listed in his drives (as if it was attached to his computer) that he just literally drags files, and folders to and it goes right to the cloud and it’s that simple.

I would love something like this, and money is not really a problem for it. I have extremely large files (mostly unprocessed raw video in HD) and would like a lot of backup. Many storage solutions have unlimited, but I would like the option of having FTP or a drive on my network like I described earlier.

I know Mozy is $60 a year for unlimited, but it seems as if I have to download some type of software. I would REALLY prefer FTP or network drive.

Thanks in advance, and please keep your answers pertaining to the question. My last question got one person saying I don’t know, and another person who didn’t say anything of importance other than to ask me if I am uploading copyrighted material.

Thanks!!
Because I don’t need an external hard drive. I have one. I need online backup.

Check out IBackup (http://www.onlinebackupsreview.com/ibackup.php) - "IBackup allows you to use the IBackup Drive feature which will map your IBackup files to a network drive" like you’re looking for, and they also support FTP access to your files.

Hi all, can someone tell me how to transfer a file over 4gb (movies) to a Network-attached storage FAT32.?

Im using a walland ME-747ans case with a 1 TB WD hard drive in it. Unable to copy files over 4GB from xp pro to it on the same network. But files below 4GB is ok.

Try formatting it to NTFS, it handles large files a lot better than FAT32.

Keeping track of archive bits with multiple backup solutions?

Lets say I run a full/diff backup via Backup Exec on my systems to tape and then I run Robocopy to run an offsite backup to a remote disk. Then I decide to run a Windows Backup just because Im paranoid.. will the archive bits get mixed up and make the backup solutions lose track of what really needs to get backed up? Or does each solution have their own "log"?

Each program will keep its own log file.

What is flash memory’s lifetime in storage?

I already know that flash memory has a limited amount of write cycles. But let’s say a flash memory device, like a solid-state drive or a simple USB flash drive, was stored in a safe place (a fire-proof safe), and not tampered with indefinitely. How long can it be stored without any of the data being permanently erased or affected? Not accounting the fact that the technology can become obsolete during it’s storage period.

Flash memory is a "permanent" memory method. But companies say that flash drives are not good for long term storage. I would count on them as safe for a few years, depending on the value of the data. If you are planning on using them this way I recommend reading the full warranty of your drive or finding a drive that includes some kind of time period there.

Four workstation computers and one laptop computer all connected to same network. Please help me with this problem (Network Attached Storage Drive) Real Answers

You have to unplug the discombobulated coaxial matrix decoder from the subroutine processor using a crossover cable, 12 port hub, and a firewalled subsystem.
